University of California Davis Chancellor Linda Katehi has been in the headlines lately for a series of high-profile incidents related to her tenure. As the university’s chancellor since 2009, Katehi oversees all aspects of the university’s teaching, research and public service, and is ultimately responsible for the university’s decisions on spending and operations.
Under her tenure, the university has advanced a plan to add up to 5,000 undergraduates, 2,500 graduate students and 300 students by 2020. It has also established the UC Davis World Food Center, which aims to tackle some of the most critical issues facing our world today, including how to feed and nourish a growing planet in an environmentally friendly way. She has also helped the university raise $1.13 billion for student scholarships, programs, facilities and other academic support.
Katehi received her bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the National Technical University of Athens, Greece and her master’s and doctoral degrees in electrical engineering from UCLA in 1981 and 1984.
